About Us
The Singapore Mercantile Co-operative Society Ltd started from a humble beginning in the 1920s when some 50 commercial employees got together to form the Co-operative Society to help one another in times of financial needs.
We were registered on 18 December 1926. Since then, we have sustained to promote co-operation and self-help among our members and assist them in reducing their cost of living and improving their economic position.
The objects of the Society shall be:
- Encouragement of thrift by receiving deposits from members, and
- Prevention of permanent indebtedness of our members with loans at reasonable interest rates.
The Co-operative is regulated by the Registry of Co-operatives Societies under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. We are also affiliated to the Singapore National Co-operative Federation, the apex body for the Co-operative Movement in Singapore.
